Mexico vs Cameroon Review

Two matches down and two refereeing controversies. Yesterday saw Fred dive to win the deciding penalty for Brazil. This match saw Mexico have two goals disallowed for offside, but the poor officiating didn't have as dramatic an effect in this game.

Mexico looked to have scored after just 10 minutes but the linesman flag was up for what looked like an incorrect offside call. Hector Herrera played a great looking ball to Giovani dos Santos that the latter headed into the net before the flag went up.

20 Minutes later Mexico once again looked to have scored, only to have the goal called back for yet another offside. Dos Santos once again was adjudged to have illegally headed the ball into the net.

"Offside" again

It looked like it was going to be another one of those days for El Tri. They controlled most of possession but were frequently frustrated by Cameroon's defense and the officials.
After halftime, Mexico continued to control possession before finally converting in the 61st minute. Dos Santos was the danger man again as he saw his shot saved by Charles Itandje before Oribe Peralta could slot it home.

Cameroon mounted a slight attack towards the end of the match but Mexico were able to hold on for the win.

Takeaways:
Man of the Match: Giovani dos Santos
Dos Santos was the danger man all day long. He had to goals that look like they should have counted before creating the deciding goal for El Tri.

Herrera and Peralta also played well for Mexico and the trio were able to create a lot of opportunities while playing through the middle.

Mexico had a lot of possession but were wasteful for a lot of the game. Miguel LayĂșn and Paul Aguilar were particularly wasteful on the wings.

Cameroon looked lost most of the day. With no creative force in midfield the seemed unsure of themselves whenever they had the ball. Samuel Eto'o also struggled and his age may be finally catching up with him as he had a minmial impact in today's match.

What's next:
Mexico battle Brazil for first place in the group on June 17 at 3:00 pm EST
Cameroon look for their first point when they take on Croatia on June 18 at 6:00 pm EST
